Saturday Ride - 09/29/2007

I have a bit of free time in September, so I decided to join the ZRXOA on the Saturday ride of the Frank Pepito Kernville Meet.  I left my house at 7:20 am, and made it to Glennville to meet the others at 9:20.  I had a bit of rain and lightning during the trip through Tejon Pass.  The windscreen on the Connie helped make the trip easier.

The rest showed up about 10:20, running a bit late.  Here are some shots taken in Glennville:

Eric (Wheelie King) showed up on his new Connie, also.  I was 15 miles short of the 1,000 mile lifting of break in restrictions, so not much after we left, I was free to use all of the Connie's motor.  We left Glennville and took the back roads to the 190 and Springville for gas.  After Springville, it was up along the divide and finally dropping down to the Kern river at Johnsondale.  We took a detour up to the overlook at Sherman Pass (9,200'), where you can see Mt. Whitney.  The mountain is just to the right of center in these pictures:

Back along the Kern River, we stopped to see the crash site where MrToU has a little mishap on Friday:

After a rest at the Kern Lodge with the club, we went out for steaks in Riverkern.  I left dinner just as the sun was setting, and took my time going down the canyon until I got to the freeway.  Then it was a quick blast home, except for a short stop at a Starbucks at Laval Road.  Home at 9:40.  437 miles in all.
