Day 11 - Tuesday, July 8, 2003 No riding this day (Well, almost no - was less than 10 miles). Daily Journal: I had sent a care package to myself to my cousin's house before I left on the trip. In it were the tourbooks and maps for the second half of the journey, a book I sent to read at night, an oil filter and a few quarts of oil. My cousins own a landscape business and I went over to the yard where they keep the trucks and changed my oil there. In the afternoon, I walked to the center of town and went to a pharmacy for some contact lens supplies. And some good ice cream. I also send a box home. I didn't need my long sleeve t-shirt anymore or my passport or the Canadian money that I still had. I also sent home the park brochures and receipts from the first half of the trip. Since my passport was in there, I sent it insured from the post office in Chatham. I sent it to myself, which as I found out when I got home, was a mistake. Nobody was home to sign for it. USPS was going to send it back, but luckily my neighbor was getting his and my mail when the mailman was there and he talked the mailman into delivering it the next day. Of course, since I had my home address as the return address, I wonder where the USPS was going to return the package to? Me? That evening, there was a concert in the park given by the Chatham Community Band. My uncle and cousins play in the band. There was a nice turnout. It was a great evening, nice weather. Afterwards we hung out at a TCBY. I got one last chance to see my grandmother. On a sad note, she passed the following day, not too many hours after I left New Jersey. |
