Photos part 5I took a weekend trip up the coast as far north as Paso Robles. It was hot inland (111° in Paso Robles), but it was a nice 75°-80° at the coast.

It's kind of a shame that Santa Maria is known as the birthplace of tri-tip, but as I was to find out on Sunday, that are not that many places serving Santa Maria tri-tip in town. Dickey's does Texas style BBQ. My brisket with cheddar jalapeno sausage was excellent.

This Dickey's did not have a pig sign. Bummer since I need a total of 10 to qualify for the bonus points.

When I first rode by this place going north, I wrote it off as a no-go. But after turning around, I found BarBQ on the back of the building, and also waited for the breeze to hold the flag out enough to get a second photo.

It was hot in Paso Robles. I didn't eat here, but I have had Big Bubba's Bad BBQ in the past. They have a traveling version with a mechanical bull that goes to county fairs and they have been at the LA County fair for a few years.

5 bonus points for getting a picture of my bike, pennant, and either a cow, pig, or chicken. It was over 110° in the Shandon area. This guy was trying to stay cool. On Sunday, I passed a herd in a pen so I got a backup shot. Future beef ribs - yum!

The AC in the motel sure was welcome after this stop, at the end of Saturday. They were closed today so I could have some dinner. I had eaten here in the past.

I got an early start on Sunday to minimize the heat while riding the inland streches. The smell of the smokers at a few of the stops this morning made me wish they were open for breakfast.

I had originally planned to stop at 7 places in SLO, but only got 4. 3 didn't have BBQ or Smoke signs, 1 was closed, and I found 1 by accident.

This probably was the only restaurant that I fond in Santa Maria with tri-tip, other than street vendors. Sad. Since it was only 10 am, I would have to wait until later for tri-tip.

Finally got some tri-tip. And the 100th stop in California for another 20 bonus points. I had the Bullwhacker - tri-tip, jack cheese, bacon, bbq sauce, and onion strings.
